Hey, I’m Serena and I’m a PhD student. What’s that? A PhD student is someone who has gone through high school, finished university and then decided they want to do even more studying! My PhD project is about finding new ways to identify different blood types so we can have safer blood transfusions. I love all things science and I have been studying science all the way back since my 5th grade teacher first inspired me. I think it’s so exciting that there are always new things to discover that can help improve our lives in so many different ways. One of my favourite things about science is that it teaches you how to solve problems because it’s something you can apply anywhere. If you break it down, science isn’t about equations and chemicals and really long complicated words, it’s someone asking a question, and then everyone trying to find an answer for it.
